We are past the halfway mark in the 2019/2020 NFL season and it’s time again to take a look at the latest updated odds on which football team would win the Super Bowl next year. While not many bettors would consider this time of the year to be ideal to place your future bets, plenty would disagree, looking for that extra value or hoping for team improvement (or regression). So let’s see what the sportsbooks have right now on the potential Super Bowl winner in February.
For the latest lines on the top teams we went to the popular online sportsbook Bovada, which shows a bit of a change compared to the opening odds, but the favorite remains the same. No surprise that the current football champ, the New England Patriots, opened as the favorite team to repeat their achievement and the loss against the Ravens, the only one on their resume this football season, did little to shake the sportsbooks’ confidence in the Pats. At Bovada Sports, the Patriots remain the big favorite to win the 2020 Super Bowl with odds +250, still offering a rather substantial payout for anyone willing to bet that New England are once again the team to beat in order to lift the trophy. In order to appreciate how much stock the odds makers put into the Patriots, consider that the second most likely team to win it all this season is the New Orleans Saints, currently holding +500 odds to get the job done early next year. Double to odds compared to the Pats is quite the confidence displayed by the sportsbooks that they would once again win the Super Bowl. And if you are planning on backing the Saints, getting five to one is as god as it would get this year, especially when we consider that Teddy Bridgewater is quite the backup to Drew Brees, while the Pats really don’t have anything special should Brady fail to make it to the big game.
In third spot come the San Francisco 49ers, who are getting little love from the sportsbooks, despite the unbeaten record so far. The 49ers are listed with +650 to win the Super Bowl game, and are followed by the Chiefs with +900. The top five teams are rounded up by the Baltimore Ravens, with +950 odds to become the football champion at the end of the postseason.
