Without sugar-coating, summertime is the worst for both bettors and sportsbooks alike. And this summer has been especially hard on the online sportsbooks, considering there wasn’t much action at all. Usually, soccer would come through every other year, with the World Cup or the Euro, but this year was quite dry, only MLS and the odd “fake cup” games keeping the sportsbooks busy on occasion. But the 2017 NFL season is just days away from start and the sportsbooks are sure to wake up from hibernation and start offering some good deals for the bettors.
The 2017 NFL Preseason will start this Thursday with just one game, the Cowboys at the Cardinals, but we expect a heavy action at the sportsbooks. But we must say that at this time the betting sites seem a bit skittish and have pretty much decided to unload the oddsmaking to the bettors themselves. At our ranked best sportsbook, Bookmaker, we have both the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys as pick on the point spread, paying out on -110 odds either way. The over/under is posted at 37 points total and currently there are no money line on the Cowboys @ Cardinals game. The situation is much the same at another popular online sportsbook, 5Dimes, where a whole bunch of money line odds are posted on the later games, but nothing yet on the preseason opener. The spread is also noted as pick at this time and the total expected by the sportsbook is also set at 37 points.
A bit disappointing unofficial start to the NFL
betting season, but we fully expect things to pick up with the college
football and the regular NFL season in a few weeks. Until them, we will
keep our eyes open on any specials and bonuses the sportsbooks are sure
to offer in the upcoming days.
